Lafayette - Larry L. Davis, 76, of Lafayette, passed away on Wednesday, November 24, 2021 in the Allisonville Meadows Long Term Care Facility, Fishers, IN.
Larry was born on August 15, 1945 in Lafayette, IN to the late Clarence Blaine and Norma Lucille (Kerr) Davis. Larry grew up in the Odell community and graduated from Southwestern High School in 1965.
Following graduation, Larry enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during the Vietnam War. During his service he attained the rank of SP4 (T) at the time of his honorable discharge in 1967. He also received the following medals and commendations during his service; Vietnam Service, National Defense Services, Vietnam Campaign and the Bronze Star. He was part of the MAC V Advisory Team 54.
Larry was employed by Eli Lilly (Tippecanoe Laboratories) for 17 years. He later was employed by the Indiana Veterans Homes in West Lafayette.
Larry enjoyed flying all kinds of planes through the years. He especially enjoyed aerobatics. While in school, Larry played trumpet in the high school band and was the leader of his own jazz band, called the Dixie Land Jazz Band.
Larry was formerly married to Shari Hippensteele.
Larry leaves behind a son, Geoffrey S. Davis and two granddaughters, Hannah K. and Lauren M. Davis; a sister, Debra (Robert) Forbes, Carmel, IN; a nephew, Dr. Michael Forbes, Wheaton, IL and two nieces, Kati and
Diana Forbes, both of Carmel, IN.
A gravesite service with military honors will be held in the New Richmond Cemetery, New Richmond, IN on Friday, December 3rd, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Julia Gonzales officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Larry's memory to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation or Foundation of Alcoholism Research. Those attending services will be required to wear masks.
