Attica - Larry "Shakey" Frank Lyon, 84, Attica, passed away in the Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis on Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at 2:38 a.m.
"Shakey", as he was known to friends, was born in Williamsport, Indiana on March 19, 1939. He was the son of the late John D. and Annette (Dinsmore) Lyon. Larry was a life resident of Attica, with the exception of a short time in Georgia and Pennsylvania, while working for C & D Battery in Attica. He was a graduate of Attica High School in 1957. He worked for C & D Battery and Harrison Steel Castings Company, before purchasing the Lyon's Den tavern in Attica. He operated the Lyon's Den for 9 ½ years, before selling the business and returning to Harrison Steel Castings as a foreman until his retirement in 2001.
Shakey grew up attending the Attica-Williamsport Presbyterian Church. He was a life member of the Eagles Lodge # 2596 and a member of the Moose Lodge # 1482, both of Attica. He enjoyed playing golf and achieved two hole-in-ones during his playing days. He enjoyed bowling and bowled on several leagues at Shawnee Lanes in Attica. He was an avid I.U. fan. He also enjoyed fishing. He had served as a fireman for the Attica Volunteer Fire Department in his early years. Shakey enjoyed deer hunting and mushrooming. Following his retirement he liked to stay home and watch old westerns on television.
On August 29, 1970, Larry married Marjorie Kathleen "Kathy" McGhee in Attica.
Larry leaves behind his wife, Kathy of soon to be 53 years. He also leaves behind his two sons, Don (Kathie) Lyon, Greenwood and Chad (Chris Ginter) Lyon, Indianapolis; his faithful cat and sidekick, Indy; his favorite grandson, John F. Lyon. He was preceded in death by two brothers, John "Gus" Lyon and Don F. Lyon.
A memorial gathering will be held at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica, on Tuesday, April 11th from 4:00 p.m. until the memorial service time at 6:00 p.m. with his sister-in-law, The Reverend Susan C. McGhee officiating.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research or to the Paws 'n Claws Animal Shelter.
