Larry B. Phelps, 77, of Oxford, passed away at Indiana University Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.
Larry B. was many things throughout his life — a son, brother, friend, veteran, uncle, father, and most importantly, a proud papa. He was born on March 6, 1949, in Bethelridge, Kentucky to Cecil Brice Phelps and Edna May (Wesley) Phelps. When he was seven years old, the family moved to Fowler, where he later graduated from Oxford High School in 1968.
Shortly after graduation, Larry B. was drafted into the United States Army, where he proudly served his country and earned the National Defense Service Medal. Following his military service, he worked for Asgrow Seed Company for more than 30 years.
Larry B. devoted much of his life to raising his three children — Brandon, Justin, and Reagan — on his own. Family meant everything to him, and his greatest joy came from being a papa to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He had a love for rock-n-roll music, vintage cars, and trips to the beach. His favorite color was orange, and his drink of choice was always Mountain Dew.
Surviving is his sister, Faye Barnard; his children, Justin Phelps and Reagan Hall; grandchildren Kameron, Samantha, Sean, Spencer, Bryce, Skyler, Hayden, Aiden and Olivia; great-grandchildren Naeomi, Kyson, Ezra, and Tamir; nephews Wes Barnard, Ricky Barnard, Cody Phelps, and Mike Tarter; and nieces Joanna Osterling, Sherry Shuck, Cassie Barnard, Meela Swank, Theresa Tarter, Lisa Tarter, Sarah Sullivan, and Tasha Sullivan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Edna Phelps; his son, Brandon Phelps; his nephew, Bryce Phelps; his twin brother, Gary Phelps; brothers Jerry and Darrell Phelps; and sisters Sue Biddle, Shirley Tarter, and Gay Phelps.
Family and friends will be received at Maus Funeral Home on Monday, June 1st from 5:00 p.m. until the memorial service time at  7:00 p.m. followed by military honors from the U.S. Army.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Indiana Veterans Home for activities and gifts for residents of Indiana Veterans Home.
