Attica - Louis Harold Salla, 72, formerly of Earl Park, IN and had been residing in Attica, IN passed away unexpectedly in the Erlanger East Hospital, while on vacation in Chattanooga, TN on Saturday, March 22, 2025.
Louis was born in Watseka, IL on September 16, 1952. He was the son of the late Melvin Lawrence Salla and Frances Ida (Cutter) Salla and his step mother, Antoinette F. Salla. Louis was raised in Earl Park, IN and has resided in Attica, IN since 2007. Louis graduated from Benton Central High School in 1970, where he ran track and cross country for the Bison. He later graduated from Vincennes University in 1972, where he ran cross country and received All-American honors. His team also won the Junior College National Championship, Track & Field in Mesa, AZ. He later attended Indiana State University. Louis worked as a banker for several banks and institutions throughout the area. He worked for 40 years in the banking business until his retirement in 2017. Following his retirement he did some substitute teaching in the local schools, which included Fountain Central High School and Benton Central High School.
Louis attended the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Attica, IN. He was a member and past president of the Boswell Rotary Club. He enjoyed watching sports and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and the Purdue Boilermakers. He was a licensed high school referee and worked many high school basketball games. He served as a little league baseball coach in Earl Park and Boswell for many years.
Louis was first married to Diana Lutz. He later married Carol (Gretencord) Green on September 8, 2007 in Otterbein, IN. Louis leaves behind his wife, Carol of nearly 18 years along with three children, Krista (Andy) Ross, Fort Smith, AR; Kent (Brenda) Salla, Plainfield, IN and Keenan Salla, Indianapolis, IN; two step children, Brad Green, West Lafayette, IN and Nicole Green Whitaker, Winter Haven, FL; two grandchildren, Caitlin Salla and Caleb Salla; five step-grandchildren, Alayah Green, Robert Green, Yailen Green, Elijah Whitaker and Luke Whitaker; three siblings, Michael (Kim) Salla, Zionsville, IN; Karl Salla, Earl Park, IN; Jeanette (Troy) Peck, Fowler, IN; a sister-in-law, Cori Salla, Lowell, IN. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings, Keith Salla, Gene Salla, Clete Salla , Matthew Salla and Eilene Meding.
Friends will be received at the Maus Funeral Home, 704 S. Council St., Attica,IN, on Sunday, March 30th, from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. with Rosary Services being recited at 1:45 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 407 S. Perry St. in Attica, IN on Monday, March 31st at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. David Rasner officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Fowler, IN. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association .
