Attica- Luther D. Phillips, 73, Attica, passed away in the Ascension St. Vincent Williamsport Hospital on Tuesday, November 8, 2022 at 6:59 a.m.
Luther was born in Somerset, KY on April 15, 1949. He was the son of the late Rev. Cage Esker and Ollie Ethel (Whitehead) Phillips. Luther was raised and educated in Somerset and spent the last 50 years in Attica.
Luther farmed in Shawnee Township most of his life. Luther and his wife, JoAnn had owned and operated the Spartan Inn Restaurant in Wingate for several years.
He was a member of the Old Fashioned Baptist Church in Independence. He enjoyed woodworking. He was a member of the New Richmond Lodge # 604 F. & A.M.; member of the Eagles Lodge # 2596 of Attica and had served as President for several terms.
Luther first married Elvie Tucker on May 22, 1965 in Monticello, KY. He later married JoAnn Rush on April 23, 1988 in Attica. JoAnn preceded him in death on March 21, 2017.
Luther leaves behind three children, Penny (Kenny) Krout, Covington; Timothy (Angela) Phillips, Lafayette and Marla (Jack) Tanner Jr., Marshfield; three step children, Pamela (Les) Scheffer, Lafayette; Kim Clark, Lafayette and Kathy (Justin) Cline, Oakwood, IL; 8 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, a great great-granddaughter, 11 step grandchildren, 19 step great-grandchildren; He was preceded in death by a daughter, Patty Phillips Carter; a step son, Richie Vallengeon; a granddaughter, Allyson Krout Jordan; six great-grandchildren; 4 brothers, Junior Phillips, Ervin Phillips, Gilbert Phillips and Gillard Phillips; 4 sisters, Flonnie New, Rosie Phillips, Ethel Phillips and Yvonne Davis.
The family would like to extend a special "thank-you" to Dr. Tahir Hafeez and staff of the Veedersburg South Clinic for their kind and loving care to our father.
Friends may call at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica on Saturday, November 12th, from 12:00 p.m. until the funeral service at 2:00 p.m with Brother Joel Whitehead officiating. Burial will follow in the Old Baptist Cemetery, west of Newtown. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Attica Community Foundation or the Paws 'n Claws Animal Shelter.
