Waynetown – Marilyn Jean (Polite) Moffett, 88, Waynetown, passed away in St. Anthony Healthcare, Lafayette, on Tuesday, March 7, 2023 at 5:30 a.m.
Marilyn was born in Michigan City, Indiana on November 21, 1934. She was the daughter of the late Harland L. and Lucille E. (Hilsabeck) Polite. She was raised in Michigan City, graduating from Elston High School, Michigan City in 1952. She later received her bachelor of science degree in home economics from Purdue University in 1956.
Marilyn married Lee F. Moffett on August 19, 1956 in Michigan City and moved to the Moffett family farm southwest of Waynetown in 1956 where they farmed together. After retiring from farming, they started and operated an outdoor power equipment business, Moffett Small Engines in Waynetown from 1987-2003. After Lee's passing, she worked as a receptionist for Myers Dinner Theater in Hillsboro.
Marilyn was an active member of the Hillsboro Christian Church, serving as organist and other positions until it's closing and then became a member of First Christian Church in Crawfordsville.
Marilyn was active in the CC(DOC) Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in her local congregation, in the Indiana Region, and at the national and international level.
She served as Moderator of the General Assembly of the CC(DOC)from 1991-1993.
As an active leader in the International Christian Women's Fellowship (ICWF), she served on the staff of the Department of Church Women, now the office of Disciples Women.
Marilyn was ICWF President from 1982-1986. In that role she served as keynote speaker and leader at many local and regional women's retreats.
Marilyn also served on the Board of Trustees for Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis and Eureka College in Eureka, IL
Memberships included Sigma Kappa Sorority, Hillsboro Harmony Club, Order of the Eastern Star and Psi Iota Xi.
Marilyn leaves behind a son, Jim (Cathy) Moffett, Crawfordsville: a grandson, John (Rachel) Moffett, Crawfordsville, great granddaughters Emma and Faye Moffett, Crawfordsville. She was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Polite.
Friends may call at the Maus Funeral Home, Hillsboro, on Sunday, March 12th from 12:00 p.m. until the service time at 2:00 p.m. with Pastors Garland Pannell and Darla Goodrich officiating. Burial will follow in the Waynetown Masonic Cemetery, Waynetown, IN. Memorial contributions may be made in Marilyn's memory to First Christian Church in Veedersburg or the First Christian Church in Crawfordsville.
