Newtown - Martha Jo (Curtis) Laws, 79, of Newtown, passed away in the emergency room of the Ascension St. Vincent Williamsport Hospital on Sunday, December 25, 2022 at 12:57 p.m.
Martha was born in Blytheville, AR on December 31, 1942. She was the daughter of the late Ulus and Leota (Smith) Curtis. She was raised in Arkansas and Missouri, moving from Sikeston, Missouri to Newtown in 1964.
While living in Newtown, she formerly worked at Radio Material Corp in Attica for awhile and then was a stay-at-home mother to raise her two sons.
She enjoyed sewing and quilting and working word search puzzles. Her favorite time was the time she spent with her family, especially with her grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling with her family.
Martha married Jim Laws on November 21, 1960 in Sikeston, MO. Jim preceded her in death on December 26, 1984.
Martha leaves behind her two sons, Jimmy (Amy) Laws, Williamsport and Ricky Laws, Newtown; five grandchildren, Levi (Sabrina) Laws, Daniela Laws, Colton Laws, Alonso Laws and Cameron Laws; three great-grandsons, Navi, Dash, Nahiyel Laws; three sisters, Mabel Pipkin and Betty Elsperman, both of Kewanee, IL and Wanda Carmack, Granite City, IL; a brother, Billy Wayne Curtis, Earlville, IL. She was preceded in death by twin grandsons, Jordon & Gordon Laws; two sisters, Faye and Eva McDougal along with a brother, Junior Curtis.
As per Martha's request, cremation services were accorded her and a private family inurnment will be held in the Newtown Cemetery, Newtown, IN at a later date.
