Covington - Marvin F. Potter, 87, Covington, passed away at the home of his daughter in Covington on Friday, January 27, 2023. He had been in failing health.
Marvin was born in Danville, Illinois on July 2, 1935. He was the son of the late Clarence Elijah and Elma Leona (Hilleary) Potter. Marvin was raised in the Bismark-Henning area and later moved to Fountain County and graduated from Richland Township High School in 1953. Following his graduation, Marvin entered the Army National Guard and served from 1953 - 1961.
Marvin later began farming in Fountain County and later worked at the John Deere Implement Company in Mellott. He finally began working at Tee-Pak in Danville until his retirement in December of 1997.
Marvin enjoyed the outdoors and liked to fish and camp. His life was about his family and he enjoyed following his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren's sporting events. He enjoyed listening to country music on 103.1 and tinkering with his Allis-Chalmers tractor. He liked to put out a garden and work in his yard.
On August 17, 1958 Marvin married Martha Elizabeth English in the Salem United Methodist Church. Martha preceded him in death on April 12, 2014.
Marvin leaves behind his three daughters, Dianna Mitchell, Covington; Donna Perry, Covington and Doris (Brian) Burgess, Caledonia, MI; five grandchildren, Trisha Wise, Angela (Jason) Ryan, Ashley (Shawn) Cunningham, Danielle (Blake Epperson) Perry and Hillary (Dustin) Kirkendall; seven great-grandchildren, Elijah (Daisy Powell) Wise, Danté "D.J" Wise, Hope Wise, Jacqulynn Ryan, Madalynn Ryan, Jace Cunningham and Elizabeth Cunningham; two great great-grandchildren, Keanan and Heidilynn Wise; two brothers, Jerry Potter, Sun City Center, FL and Hugh (Marilyn) Potter, Danville, IN; a nephew, Brant Potter, Columbus, IN. He was preceded in death by a son, Russell Marvin Potter and a grandson, Jason Wise.
Friends may call at the Maus Funeral Home, Hillsboro on Thursday, February 2nd from 12:00 p.m. until service time at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Tom Dewlen officiating. Burial will follow in the Rockfield Cemetery, Veedersburg. Memorial contributions may be made to the Covington Community Foundation "Park Fund".
