Newtown - Mary Ann (Coffing) Martin, 90, formerly of Newtown and Mellott, passed away in Autumn Trace Senior Living, Attica, on Monday, September 30, 2024 at 5:55 a.m.
Mary Ann was born in Covington, Indiana on October 26, 1933.  She was the daughter of the late David N. and Myra (Young) Coffing.  Mary Ann was raised as a farm girl in Newtown and graduated from Richland Township High School in 1951.  Mary Ann lived most of her life in Newtown and later at the farm.
Mary Ann first served as Clerk-Treasurer for the town of Newtown.  She later became the Richland Township Trustee in Fountain County.  She later was elected Fountain County Recorder in which she served two consecutive terms before retiring.  Besides her family her  great loves were the family farm,  politics and Lake Freeman.  Some of her fondest memories are those years spent on Lake Freeman with family and friends.  She enjoyed her music and especially the music of the Gaither Family.
Mary Ann had attended the Newtown Community Church and was a member of the Sterling Christian Church.  She was a founding member of the Domesticated Debs Home Economics Club and a  member of the Fountain County Republican Women. She enjoyed attending the Ladies Red Hat Society of Newtown.
Mary Ann leaves behind four children, Douglas (Marilyn) Martin, Florence, KY and their three children, Kyle (Sara) Martin, Stacy Martin and Megan (Kelly) Johnson; Thomas (Beth) Martin, Rockville and his son, Daniel Martin and his late daughter, Jessica Martin; Scott Martin, New Lenox, IL and Julie (Chris) Shoaf, Newtown and their three children, Sarah (Cam) Patria, Sam (Allison) Shoaf and Hannah (Issac) Stonebraker; eight great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica, on Saturday, October 5th, from 1:00 p.m. until the service time at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor David Sims officiating.  Burial will follow in the Newtown Cemetery.
