Hillsboro - Mary L. (Cook) Newnum Lyons, 84, formerly of Hillsboro and had been residing in the Wellbrooke of Crawfordsville Healthcare Center, Crawfordsville, IN, passed away in the Wellbrooke of Crawfordsville on Tuesday, September 26, 2023 at 4:05 a.m.
Mary was born in Perrysville, Indiana on May 26, 1939.  She was the daughter of the late Clark and Viola (Thomas) Cook.  She was raised in Perrysville and graduated from Perrysville High School.  She went on and received her BS Degree and Masters Degree  in Education from Indiana State University.  She has resided in Hillsboro since December 1, 1986 and later moving to Wellbrooke in Crawfordsville.
Mary was an elementary school teacher for the Southeast Fountain Elementary School Corp for 25 years retiring in 1994.
Mary was a member of the Hillsboro Christian Church.  She also had memberships in the Order of the Eastern Star and Pythian Sisters in Hillsboro.
Mary was first married to Paul Newnum and later married Richard Lyons.  She was preceded in death by both husbands.
Mary leaves behind her daughter, Paula Christine "Chris" Newnum, Rantoul, IL; a sister, Marie Butler, Tilton, IL.  She was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Keller.
As per Mary's wishes, her body was donated to the Indiana University Anatomical Education Program and upon completion of her study she will be inurned in the Indiana University Education Program section of the Crown Hill Cemetery, Indianapolis, IN at a later date.
