West Point - Mary Louise "Mary Lou" (Jones) Lawson, 86, West Point, passed away in her home, with her family by her side, on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at 7:28 p.m.
Mary Lou, as she was known to family and friends, was born in Odell, in Tippecanoe County, Indiana on September 19, 1937. She was the daughter of the late Walter Robert "Casey" and Alice Mae (Chase) Jones. She was a life resident of Tippecanoe County, attending West Point School and receiving her GED from McCutcheon High School.
Mary Lou first worked in the Tippecanoe County Clerks Office. She later worked for the Tippecanoe County Police Department in Human Resources. Her final job that she worked for 23 years as an Administrative Assistant with the Purdue University, retiring in 2000.
Mary Lou was a member of the West Point United Methodist Church since childhood. She was active in the church and was a member of the United Methodist Women. She spent long hours helping her children and grandchildren with their 4-H projects. She enjoyed living on the farm, mowing grass and taking care of her flowers and vegetable garden. She enjoyed square dancing, raising race horses, both trotters and pacers; loved spending time with her family, especially the little ones; spent time with her sisters, quilting and camping with family and friends; you could always find her in attendance at the ball games of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved making homemade ice cream and sharing with the family.
On July 20, 1954, Mary Lou married Clarence M. Lawson. Clarence preceded her in death on October 12, 2006.
Mary Lou leaves behind her five children, Glenn E. (Becky) Lawson; Gary L. (Vicki) Lawson; Carmen L. (friend-Gregg Fischer) Irwin; Judith A. (Thomas) Krueger and Roger "Nub" (Kimberlee) Lawson; 11 grandchildren, Michael (Michelle) Lawson; Misty Lynn Lawson; Casey (Micaela) Lawson; Nicole (Jake) Tillotson; Keith (Amanda) Irwin; Megan (friend-Rob Blankenship) Irwin; Tony Derhammer; Rusty (Nicole) Derhammer; Shelby Krueger; Joshua Lawson and Cory Lawson; 22 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jane (Bill) Lutgen and Ruth (Jim) Hawley. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Christina F. Lawson; 3 sisters, Kathleen Barker, Eileen Savoldi and Helen Pearson along with 5 brothers, Wayne, Ronald, Donald , Ralph and Paul Jones.
Friends may call at the West Point United Methodist Church on Thursday, April 11th, from 11:00 a.m. until the service time at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Jerry Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the West Point Cemetery, West Point. Memorial contributions may be made to the West Point United Methodist Church.
