Attica - Mary Arnetta (Pugh) Winkler, 90, Attica, passed away quietly in the Ascension St. Vincent Williamsport Hospital, with her family by her side, on Thursday, May 8, 2025 at 3:50 a.m.
Mary was born on March 18, 1935 in Williamsport, Indiana.  She was the daughter of the late Archie Clyde and Inez M. (Craft) Pugh.  Mary moved to Attica at the age of four, living with her family and then residing with her beloved sister Jo.  The two were more than sisters, they were best friends, protectors, and cheerleaders for each other.
Mary attended school in Attica.  She then worked for Opal and Clifford Fry, babysitting Elissa and Bill.  Mary loved and adored them.  For many years she worked for Radio Material Corp. on the production line, as a cook, and a nurse.  Upon retiring, Mary did domestic work for Rusty and Ann Harrison and John Cottrell.  Rusty wouldn't let anyone iron his shirts but Mary.
Mary enjoyed caring for her beautiful garden and identifying a variety of birds.  She was famous for making Teddy Bears and hand crafted Father Christmas' dolls, completed with fur coats.  Her efforts were published in several papers.  Mary had many talents: making dolls with elegant dresses, crocheting, knitting, sewing and most importantly maintaining a spotless house.  Mary loved her church.  She was a devoted member of the Attica Christian Church and participated with the Abagails in the church.
On April 14, 1995, Mary married Robert K. Winkler in Urbana, Illinois.  Robert preceded her in death on August 10, 2014.
Mary leaves behind her beloved sister, Jo Pugh, Attica; nieces, Linda (Lawson) Lucas, Hazen (Lawson) Ingram; many other special nieces, nephews and cousins.  She was preceded in death by a sister, Betty (Pugh) Lawson; two stepsisters, Maxine (Pugh) Wagner and Larena Hobaugh along with a stepbrother, Bob Pugh and an uncle Robert Rolan.
Mary touched many lives.  She will always be remembered for her sharp wit and the twinkle in her eye.
Friends may call at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica on Wednesday, May 14th from 11:00 a.m. until the service time at 1:00 p.m.  Burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery, Attica.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Attica Community Foundation or the Attica Christian Church.
