Mellott - Matilda Kay (Dobbels) Davidson, 81, formally of Mellott, passed away on June 26, 2026 in the Lane House in Crawfordsville with her family by her side.
Kay, as she was known to family and friends, was born in Danville, Illinois on September 17, 1944. She was the daughter of the late Joseph Francis and Hildred Louise (Grandstaff) Dobbels. She was raised in Attica and attended Attica High School. She later lived in Lafayette, Rossville and most recently in Mellott, until going into the nursing home in Crawfordsville 6 years ago.
She formally worked as a waitress at the Attica Café and Sargent Oaks in Lafayette. She was a member of the Sterling Christian Church and enjoyed needlepoint, crocheting, word search puzzles, bingo and collecting angels.
She leaves behind four children, Terrietta Mowery, Attica; Donald (Zoe) Smart Jr., Decatur, IL; Johnnie (Companion-Karyl Patterson) Smart, Lafayette and Jackie (Valerie) Smart, Mellott; her sister, Henrietta Gick, Lafayette; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Marlena K. Smart; brother, Terry Dobbels; and a grandson, Brandon Smart.
As per Kay's wishes, cremation services were accorded her and a memorial grave side service will be held in the Riverside Cemetery, Attica, on Friday, July 10, 2026 at 2:30 p.m. with Pastor David Sims officiating.
