Attica - Monte Donald Mickle, 67, formerly of Attica and had been residing in Springfield, Illinois, passed away unexpectedly in his home on Thursday, August 6, 2026 at 4:32 a.m.
Monte was born in Crawfordsville, Indiana on February 1, 1959. He was the son of the late Dean David and Merdith “Mert” (Rainey) Mickle. Monte was raised in Attica, where he played football for the Attica Red Ramblers. He graduated from Attica High School in 1977. He later lived in Independence and West Lebanon before moving to Springfield two and a half years ago. Upon graduating from Attica High School he entered the workforce and became a machinist at Harrison Steel Castings Company in Attica for 44 years until his retirement in February of 2024. Monte attended the Attica Free Methodist Church. He loved sports and followed Purdue University sports, the Chicago Bears and the Chicago Cubs as his favorite teams. He enjoyed fishing and following his grandchildren playing baseball. He leaves behind four children, Evan (Brittany Woods) Mickle, West Lebanon; Isaac Mickle, West Lebanon; Dustin Mickle, Independence and Jessica Solomon; his companion, Cris Crawford, Springfield, IL; two brothers, Michael Mickle, Lafayette and Marty (Tina) Mickle, Springfield, IL; two sisters, Melissa (Robert) Mickle-Nelson, Nolensville, TN and Maria (Michael) Sabad, Friendsville, TN; eight grandchildren, Addox Mickle, Hudson Mickle, Macey Mickle, Luna Mickle, Dalton Mickle, Ruby Mickle, Lauren Mickle and an infant soon to be born; four great-grandchildren, Korbyn, Ryder, Sawyer and Violet. He was preceded in death by a son, Nathan Mickle, a daughter-in-law, Tasha Mickle and a brother, Max Mickle. As per Monte’s request, cremation services were accorded him and a celebration of his life will be held at Maus Funeral Home, Attica on Sunday, August 16th, from 12:00 p.m. until the celebration of life service at 2:00 p.m. with family sharing memories. Inurnment will follow in the Salem Cemetery, Attica.
