Nancy E. Shumaker

Veedersburg - Nancy Ellen (Tornquist) Shumaker, 87, Veedersburg, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Wednesday, December 24, 2025 at 5:33 p.m.
Nancy was born in Danville, IL on January 12, 1938.  She was the daughter of the late Oscar E. and Vera (Kilby) Tornquist.  Nancy was raised in Veedersburg, graduating from Veedersburg High School.  Nancy was a homemaker along with baby sitting for several families children in the community.  Nancy also worked as a dental technician for Dr. Shirley Neeley in Veedersburg for several years.
Nancy enjoyed the time spent watching sports at Fountain Central through the years with her husband.  She just recently experienced her first girls high school wrestling match at Fountain Central.  Nancy was happiest when family was visiting with her.
On May 10, 1957, Nancy married Charles Duane Shumaker in Veedersburg.  Duane preceded her in death on March 13, 2025.
Nancy leaves behind her four sons, Dan (Cathy) Shumaker, Lafayette; Kelvin (Anna) Shumaker, Olathe, KS; Tim (Kathryn) Shumaker, Veedersburg and Kenneth (Valli) Shumaker, Covington; a daughter, Lucinda (Dan) Sichting, Brookston, IN; eleven grandchildren, Doug (Megan) Shumaker, Angela (John) Sliger, Bethany (Cody) Burlew, Jessica Shumaker, Mackenzie (Brayden) Alward, Gabrielle Shumaker, Aiden Shumaker, Peyt Shumaker, Kendall Shumaker, Ellen (Chad) Sichting and Danielle Sichting; five great-grandchildren, Hunter Burlew, Jaxon Sliger, Makenna Shumaker, Declan Shumaker and Hadley Alward; several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sue Ellen Shumaker and a brother, John Tornquist.
A gravesite service for Nancy will be held in the Cooper's Chapel Cemetery, south of Veedersburg,  on Tuesday, December 30th, at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Ryan Sowers officiating.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to the Fountain County 4-H Foundation.
