Lafayette - Patricia "Pat" Belle (Smart) Muston Kepler, 78, Lafayette and formerly of Attica, passed away in the I.U. Health Arnett Hospital, Lafayette, on Tuesday, June 29, 2021 at 7:30 a.m. following an illness with cancer.
Pat, as she was known to family and friends, was born at home in Attica, Indiana on October 16, 1942. She was the daughter of the late Ralph E. and Mary J. (Knowles) Smart. She was raised in Attica, graduating from Logan Township in 1956 and Attica High School in 1960. She later moved to Lafayette where she has been residing.
In 1961 Pat began her career with Western Southern Life Insurance, working 25 years, then Co-owned and pioneered office suite leasing Kepler & Associates Inc. Secretarial Services and renting offices in Saw Mill Run. In 1989 she returned to District Administrator at Western Southern, retiring in 2000. She was an active member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, serving on several committees and singing in the choir. She along with her husband were members of the Ambassador's, a singing group that would perform in the Lafayette community. She and her husband were members of the John Purdue Club.
She was first married to Marvin Muston who preceded her in death in 1973. She later married F. Rex Kepler on July 17, 1978 in Lafayette. Rex preceded her in death on May 18, 2011.
Pat leaves behind a step daughter, Mitzi (David) Eichenberger Westfield, IN; a sister, Peggy Anderson, Attica; four grandchildren, Brie, Russ, Grace and Eliza; four great-grandchildren, Dylan, Metali, Tanaya and Shayla; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a step-daughter, Susie Lanfear; a sister Rosie Rasnic; a brother, Donald Smart and her parents.
Friends may call at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica, on Tuesday, July 6th , from 12:00 p.m. until service time at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Suzanne Clemenz officiating. Burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery, Attica. Memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church, American Cancer Society or Illumination India at www.illuminateindia.org.
