Attica - Patricia "Pat" E. (Byers) Shonkwiler, 85, Attica, passed away at the Providence at St. Mary of the Woods in St. Mary of the Woods, Indiana on Saturday, April 2, 2022 at 10:30 p.m.
Pat, as she was known to family and friends, was born in Gary, Indiana on June 6, 1936. She was the daughter of the late Albert Byers and Marianne (Kubicek) Byers Christenson. She was raised in Gary, later moving to Marshfield and graduating from West Lebanon High School in 1954. Pat has resided in Attica most of her adult life.
Pat married Russell Shonkwiler Jr on May 31, 1959 in Danville, IL. Russell preceded her in death on February 5, 2000.
Pat formerly owned and operated Pats Rummage Room in Attica for 35 years. She also worked at Harrison Steel Castings Company in Attica from 1992 until her retirement in 2014.
Pat was a member of the Attica Eagles Lodge # 2596. She enjoyed playing cards, especially euchre. She was an avid I.U. sports fan and enjoyed going to auctions. She was especially fond and supported Donald Trump and his message of "Making America Great Again".
Pat leaves behind two daughters, Kris (Jack) Sorters and Cindi (Bill) Askren, both of Attica; three granddaughters, Ami (Dustin) McDaniel; Tori Howard (Mark) and Summer (Charlie) Rice; two step grandchildren, Christie (Tom) Harrison and Heather Keaton; ten great-grandchildren, Jacob (Marklee) Marcov, Faith McDaniel, Caitlyn McDaniel, Naomi McDaniel, Braden Howard, Riley Howard, CeCe Rice, Bo Rice, Maddox Rice and Henley Rice; several other step grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister and her best friend, Candace (Ed) Chatoian, Lake Oswego, Oregon; a sister-in-law, Sandra Shonkwiler, Attica. She was preceded in death by a son, Rusty Shonkwiler; a sister, Albert "Bert" Bowlus and an aunt, StephanieYakopec.
As per Pat's wish, cremation services will be accorded her and a private family gravesite service will be held at a later date in the Riverside Cemetery, Attica. Memorial contributions may be made in Pat's memory to the Attica Community Foundation.
