Veedersburg - Paul Gene Stockdale, 91, of rural Veedersburg, passed away quietly in his home on Friday, June 20, 2025 at 9:13 a.m.
Gene, as he was known to family and friends, was born on June 18, 1934 in Danville, Illinois.  He was the son of the late Paul Robert and Fern Lenora (Gray) Stockdale.  Gene grew up and has lived in the Scotts Prairie area of Fountain County all of his life. He was a graduate of Hillsboro High School in 1952 and attended Purdue University's short course for Agriculture.  Gene farmed all of his life in the Scotts Prairie area.
Gene entered the U.S. Army in 1959 and at the time of his honorable discharge had attained the rank of Private.  He later transferred to the Indiana National Guard in 1962 and at the time of his honorable discharge from the National Guard had attained the rank of Sergeant.  He was a 50 year member and Past Master of the Hillsboro Lodge # 385 F. & A.M. He was a life long member of the Hillsboro United Methodist Church.
On August 16, 1959, Gene married his high school sweetheart, Carolyn Sue Frazier in the Hillsboro United Methodist Church.  Sadly Carolyn preceded him in death on February 1, 2025 following 65 years of marriage.
Gene leaves behind his two children, Wesley (Sara) Stockdale, Veedersburg and Cara (Bruce) Kiesewetter, Crawfordsville, Iowa; three grandchildren, Jake (Kylie) Stockdale, Veedersburg; Kale Kiesewetter and Will Kiesewetter, both of Columbus Junction, Iowa; a great-granddaughter, Sawyer Stockdale, Veedersburg; two sisters, Lois Ephlin, Fishers, IN and Mary Carolyn Stevenson, Wellington, OH; a brother, Lowell (Donna) Stockdale, Hillsboro.
A gravesite service will be held in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Hillsboro on Thursday, June 26th, with Masonic services beginning at 11:00 a.m. followed by a gravesite service led by Chaplain Jim Stephens of the Southern Care Hospice.  Burial follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Fountain County 4-H-Jamie's Fund, c/o Old National Bank, 401 Washington St., Covington, IN   47932.
