Covington - Phyllis Joyce (VanSlyke) Sims, 81, Covington, passed away in The Waters of Covington, on Sunday, October 20, 2019 at 2:08 a.m.
Phyllis was born in Solsberry, Indiana on April 19, 1938. She was the daughter of the late George and Dorothy (Raney) VanSlyke. Phyllis was raised in Solsberry and graduated from Solsberry High School in 1958. Following graduation, Phyllis moved to Bloomington, IN and began working at Sarkes Tarzian.
On August 12, 1961, Phyllis married Billie D. Sims in Atkinsonville, IN. They moved to Covington and have resided there since 1964.
Phyllis was an active member of the Christian Union Church south of Covington. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting and was a great cook. Her favorite moment was spending time with her family.
She leaves behind her husband, Billie of 58 years along with a daughter, Kim (Craig) Gott, Attica and a son, Mike (Teresa) Sims, Linden, IN; four grandsons, Ryan (Kelly) Lynch, Crawfordsville; Alan Gott, Attica; Cameron Sims, Aurora, NE and Clayton Sims, Linden; two granddaughters, Jennifer Gott, Attica and Shelby Sims, Linden; a great-grandson, Roman Gott, Attica; two sisters, Leah (Mike) Byrer, Bowling Green, IN and Georgeanna (Bill) Kern, Marion, IN. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Darrell VanSlyke.
A memorial service will be held in the Christian Union Church, 1974 E. 1550 N. Covington, on Sunday, October 27th, at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Tony DeMoss officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Coal Creek Cemetery, south of Covington. Memorial contributions may be made to the Christian Union Church.
