Attica - Raymond "Ray" Carl Carter, 87, formerly of Attica and had been residing at Homewood Health Campus, Lebanon, passed away in the Homewood Health Campus, Lebanon on Friday, August 4, 2023 at 10:15 p.m.
Ray was born in the Lafayette Home Hospital on November 1, 1935.  He was the son of the late Raymond Edward Carter and Gwendolyn (McGhehey) Carter Button. Ray was raised in West Point, graduating from West Point High School in 1953.  He moved to Attica in 1986.
Ray formerly owned and operated R & J Furniture Stripping in Lafayette.  He later worked as a machinist at TRW (Ross Gear) in Lafayette  until his retirement in 1993.
Ray was a member of the Eagles Lodge in Lafayette and later with Attica Eagles Lodge # 2596; member of the Moose Lodge in Lafayette and later with Moose Lodge # 1482 of Attica; member of Kickapoo Carving in Danville, IL and was an avid woodworker.  He enjoyed watching sports, especially Purdue mens basketball and football.
Ray was first married to Janet Louise Mennen and she preceded him in death.  He later married Laura Jane (Cullen) Gaskill in Chase, IN on May 17, 1986.  Laura preceded him in death on September 19, 2016.
Ray leaves behind his two sons, Randy E. (Joyce) Carter and Raymond J. "Jerry" Carter, both of Lafayette; five grandchildren, twins Haley Carter and Hannah (Ruben) Montoya; Colby (Yvonne) Baker, LaStar Carter and Lindsay (Joe) Bueno; five great-grandchildren, Hunter Montoya, Mia Watkins, David Clara, Mary Louise Baker and Winslow Grace Baker.  He was preceded in death by a grandson, Everet Raymond Carter; a half brother, Thomas Joe Button and a sister Patty Lee Lamb.
Friends may call at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica, on Thursday, August 10th, from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m.  Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Friday, August 11th, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Tracy Acord officiating.   Burial will follow in the Rest Haven Memorial Park, Lafayette.  Memorial contributions may be made to the American Breast Cancer.
