Chesterton - Roberta Jane (Pearson) Spowart, 71, Chesterton, IN and formerly of Independence, passed away quietly at her home in Chesterton on Saturday, November 7, 2020 at 1:16 p.m. with family at her bedside.
Roberta was born in Danville, IL on June 8, 1949. She was the daughter of the late Bowater B. and Jonora Jane (Fraser) Pearson. She was raised in the Independence area and graduated from Pine Village High School in 1967. She attended Indiana State University. Roberta had lived for several years in Hammond and more recently lived in Chesterton and wintered in Venice, FL.
Roberta owned and operated "Above All Nails" in Hammond for ten years before her retirement.
She was a member of the Women of the Moose and Ladies Auxiliary of the V.F.W. Post in Venice, FL. In her pastime she enjoyed sewing, gardening, scrap booking. She was a good cook and baker. Above all, she liked to shop.
On March 7, 1970, Roberta married Robert Noel Spowart in Terre Haute, IN. Robert preceded her in death on November 11, 2013.
Roberta leaves behind two daughters, Tammy (Thomas) Rollo, Brazil, IN and Wendy (Robert) Riggle, Chesterton, IN; three grandchildren, Shelby Takacs (Thomas Lyons), Robby Riggle and Kaylee Riggle; her brother, William "Willie" Pearson, Culver, IN and a sister, Linda (Jeff) Fehrenbacher, Newton, IL. Roberta was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Bobby Pearson.
Friends may call at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica, on Saturday, November 21st from 12:00 p.m until service time at 2:00 p.m. (EST). Burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery, Attica. A reminder to all attendees of the services for Roberta, that masks will be required to be worn.
Memorial contributions may be made to the VNA Hospice of Valparaiso or the Pancreatic Cancer Awareness (PanCAN.org.).
