Independence - Roger DeWayne Taylor, 64, of rural Independence, passed away quietly at home on Monday, July 6, 2026 at 7:16 a.m. following his failing health.
Roger was born in Lafayette, Indiana on December 16, 1961. He was the son of the late Ralph Jennings and Iva Lorene (Shoaf) Taylor. He was raised in Romney and attended Southwestern High School. He has lived in rural Independence for the past 34 years.
Roger was a heavy equipment operator and semi truck driver. He worked as an over the road truck driver for different companies and also as a private semi truck driver. He had presently worked with Purdy Trucking in Lafayette.
Roger had served with the Indiana National Guard for 13 years and at the time of his honorable discharge in 1992 had attained the rank of Sergeant.
Roger enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle and being an active member of the ABATE.
Roger married Stephanie L. Linder on September 21, 1991 in Linden, IN. He leaves behind his wife, Stephanie of nearly 35 years. He also leaves behind two daughters, Stacey (Vince) Cunningham, West Point, IN and Andrea (David) Mattingly, Greenwood, IN; five siblings, Jill M. Moore, West Lafayette; Ralph L. Taylor, Attica; Randall C. Taylor, Tucson, AZ; James R. Taylor, Attica and Lisa Jo Taylor, Attica; three grandchildren, Aaron Hurd, Lafayette; Kara Harvell, Illinois; Miguel Partida, Greenwood; five great-grandchildren, Sophia, Avery, Braedon, Kendrick and Evelyn. He was preceded in death by a sister, Cathy Blacker and his parents.
As per Roger's request, cremation services were accorded him and a celebration of his life, with military honors, will be held in the Rainsville Cemetery, Rainsville, IN on Saturday, August 15th at 12:30 p.m.
