Monticello - Ronald "Ron" Lee Rhymer, 73, of rural Monticello, passed away in his home, surrounded by his family, on Sunday, March 28, 2021 at 9:45 a.m. following a three month bout with cancer.
Ron was born in Middlesboro, KY on November 28, 1947. He was the son of the late Chadwell and Hattie Mae (Clounce) Rhymer. Ron was raised in the Kentucky-Virginia area, moving to West Point, IN in his teens. He later lived for 9 years in North Judson and 22 years in Francesville before moving to rural Monticello 4 years ago.
Ron formerly worked at Harrison Steel Castings Company in Attica and more recently worked as a over the road truck driver for Roadway Trucking Company until his retirement.
Ron served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. At the time of his honorable discharge, he had attained the rank of Specialist 5th Class.
Ron was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Monticello. He enjoyed raising and showing quarter horses. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed gardening and camping. He was a former member of the American Legion Post in Lafayette.
Ron married Sandra Kay Troxel on July 20, 1973 in West Lafayette, IN. He leaves behind his wife, Sandra of nearly 48 years along with three children, Rhonda (Daniel) Pierce, Lafollette, TN; Christopher (Theresa) Rhymer, Winamac and Stacie Rhymer, South Bend; three brothers, Tom (Jean) Rhymer and Ford Rhymer, both of Lafayette; Dan (Sue) Rhymer, Delphi; three sisters, Dorothy (Jack) Ruckel and Virginia Sparger, both of Lafayette; Brenda (Jeffrey) Durham, Indianapolis; five grandchildren, Andrew and Colton Rhymer; Jake Pierce; Jacob and Grace Smith; three great-grandchildren, Brantley, Breelan and Brexlee.
A private family gravesite service will be held in the Bethel Cemetery, east of Attica with military honors. Mark and Renee Troxel will officiate.
