Hillsboro - Ronald J. Simmerman, 70, of Hillsboro, died at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 2, 2020 at the St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis.
Ronald was born on September 16, 1949 in Crawfordsville. He was the son of Lola May (Hayman) Simmerman and the late Donald D. Simmerman. He was raised in Covington and graduated from Covington High School in 1967. After graduation, he enlisted in the US Army where he served in Vietnam until his discharge in 1971. He later moved to Hillsboro where he had lived for over 20 years.
Ronald worked for IGA in Covington where he worked his way up to becoming manager of the store. He was a CNA at the Covington Nursing Home & Ben Hur Nursing Home in Crawfordsville. He also drove a tractor trailer for Indianapolis Fruit Company where he delivered produce to food stores for 19 years, retiring in 2014. His free time was often spent going hunting and fishing.
On July 26, 1995 Ron married Ana M. Morrone in Hillsboro. She preceded him in death on September 4, 2019.
Surviving along with his mother are three sisters, Donna Sue (Leonard) Honaker, Sandra May (Joe) Whitaker & Linda Marie Whitaker, all of Covington.
As per Ron's request cremation will be accorded and no formal service will take place.
