Lafayette - Rose E. (Greer) Gray Long, 82, Lafayette, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, June 18, 2023, following a year and a half battle with a very rare form of blood cancer.
Rose was born on June 10, 1941 to the late Robert and Edna (Murray) Greer in Royrader, Kentucky. Her parents moved the family to Warren County, Indiana when she was a small child. Rose graduated from Williamsport High School in 1959.
Rose married Ronald L. Gray on February 21, 1969 in Independence, Indiana. Rose worked at Spiker Oil Company in Lafayette, Indiana until she and Ron opened the Clark Station on U.S. 41 in Attica, Indiana. After selling the business she and Ron moved to Lafayette where she worked at Lafayette Bank & Trust, being promoted to Assistant Vice President. Ron preceded her in death on April 4, 1986. She later married Robert Long on December 19, 1987. Later she and Bob moved to Dallas, Texas where she worked as a Vice President of the Northern Trust Bank. After retirement she and Bob managed the Oasis Café at the Assembly of God campground in Waxahachie, Texas. After a breast cancer diagnosis, she and Bob moved back to Lafayette to be closer to family. They then took a position at Church Alive as pastors to the Seniors and Widows.
Rose leaves behind her husband, Bob Long along with three daughters, Billi Gray and Gwen Westphal of Lafayette; Lisa (Greg) Hackett of Virginia; twin sons, Ronald (Tina) Gray of Tennessee and Richard (Christina) Gray of Lafayette; her stepchildren, Terry (Vicki) Long of Indianapolis; Robin (Jerry) McKinney, Crawfordsville and Jeff (Viola) Long of Pendleton, IN. Rose is also survived by 24 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Rose leaves behind a sister, Pauline Phelps, Lafayette and two brothers, Louie Greer of West Point and George (Lois) Greer, Lafayette. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Edna Greer; her first husband, Ronald Gray; two sisters, Bo Short and Janie Wirth; two brothers, Bobby Greer and Carl Greer; and a son-in-law, Richard Westphal.
A public gravesite service for Rose will be held in the Independence Cemetery, Independence, IN on Tuesday, June 27th, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Owen Mason officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Church Alive, 2401 S. 100 W. Lafayette, IN 47909.
