Riverside - Russell D. "Donnie" Martin, 86, of the Riverside Community, passed away at his home surrounded by his family, on Thursday, December 17, 2020.
Donnie, as he was known to family and friends, was born in Lafayette, Indiana on March 5, 1934. He was the son of the late Robert "Bus" Lee and Verna Deloris (Long) Martin. He attended Davis School and has been a resident of the West Point and Riverside Community most of his life.
Donnie worked at ALCOA Aluminum Company as a maintenance supervisor, retiring in 1982.
Donnie entered the U.S. Army in 1954 and served in the Korean War.
He was a member of the American Legion Post # 52 and life member of the V.F.W. Post # 3318, both of Attica. He also belonged to the Eagles Lodge # 2596 and Moose Lodge # 1482, both of Attica. In his pastime he enjoyed running heavy equipment, fishing, camping with family, playing guitar, harmonica and piano with local bands. He was "Mr. Fix-it" in the Riverside Community. His most enjoyable moments was time spent with his family.
On April 17, 1954, Donnie married Patricia "Pat" Lucille Lank in West Point, IN. Pat preceded him in death on August 30, 2003.
He leaves behind his two daughters, Cyndi Martin-Mendoza, Attica and Michelle Hinkle; a son, Russell "Rusty" (Cindy) Martin Jr., Attica; his significant other of 15 years, Julie Musser, Riverside; a brother, James W. Martin, West Point; eleven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; a son-in-law, Mike Whitlow, Chesapeake, VA. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Terry Whitlow; four brothers, Cliff, Robert "Bob", Kenny and Claude "Bud" Martin along with two sisters, Evelyn Eagleoff and Carol White.
A private family graveside service with military honors will be held in the West Point Cemetery, West Point, IN. Memorial contributions in Donnie's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.
