Attica - Sallie Karen (Bensinger) Bjork-Bensinger, 88, formerly of Chicago, IL and had been residing in Attica, passed away in the home of her niece in Attica on Thursday, October 1, 2026 at 5:49 a.m.

      Sallie was born in Chicago, Illinois on September 30, 1938. She was the daughter of the late Eugene Albert and Agnes Christine (Dullom) Bensinger. She was raised and educated in Chicago, later moving to Attica, Indiana with her sister.

      Sallie was formerly married to the late Robert Bjork, who preceded her in death. Sallie was a homemaker most of her life.

      She was a member of the St. Gregory Catholic Church in Chicago. She enjoyed the outdoors and was very active where she liked to swim and bike. She was a Master Gardener and did gardening of flower beds along the Metraline railway in the Ravenwood-Balmoral Line west of Chicago.

      Sallie leaves behind three children, Jon Bjork, James (Judith) Bjork, both of Fox River Grove, IL; Jill Bjork, Bentonville, AR; her sister, Merrie Thornburg, Attica; ten grandchildren, Adam (Sydney Alexandra Hines) Bjork; Alex Bjork-Lundburg, Andrew Lundburg, Eric Bjork, Ryan Bjork, Blake Bjork, Matthew John Bjork, Caroline Lara Bjork, Hunter Bjork and Jennifer Michelle Bjork; a great-grandson, David Bjork. She was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene Bensinger.

      As per Sallie’s request, cremation services were accorded her and no formal service will be held. Memorial contributions may be made in Sallie’s memory to Paws ‘n Claws Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 294, Attica, IN 47918.
