Attica - Sandra "Sandy" Lee (Borst) Deck, 83, Attica, passed away at her home, with family by her side, on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at 2:17 p.m.
Sandy was born in Williamsport, Indiana on May 25, 1940.  She was the daughter of the late George Ray and Frances Mary Ellen (Kirts) Borst.  Sandy resided most of her life in Attica, graduating from Attica High School in 1958.  She attended St. Elizabeth School of Nursing in Lafayette and received her Registered Nurses degree in 1961.
Sandy initially worked for Dr. Kressler in Kentland and after moving to Attica did private duty nursing.  She later worked for Dr. William Ringer and with Community Hospital in Williamsport.  She was known for her nursing at the Attica Consolidated School Corp., serving in the elementary school from 1972-1986.  She later worked at the former Culver Hospital in Crawfordsville.
In her professional career she was a past member of the Child Protection Team in Fountain County.  She served as C.P.R. instructor; served in First Aid instruction for Brownies and Cub Scouts; co-organized School Immunization for students in the Attica Elementary School.  As far as her community activities she was an Associate Member and Past President of the Delta Theta Chapter of Tri Kappa Sorority; Past Treasurer of the A.S.K; member of the Attica First United Methodist Church, serving in the Chancel Choir and serving at the Director of the Youth Choir; Chairwoman of publicity for the "Follies" in 1977; Brownie Leader; Attica Band Booster member and Past President; Co-Chairwoman of the Potowatomi Festival Chatauqua; serving as Treasurer of the Attica Alumni Association in 1978; Tri-Kappa Smorgasbord Chairwoman in 1978.  She had served on the Garden Style Show Choir; Scholarship Chairman for Tri Kappa; Senior After Prom Co-Chairwoman; Attica Swim Team; Community Hospital Guild-Financial Committee , Building Fund and Co-Chairwoman of he Gymnasium Dedication at Attica High School.
Sandy greatly enjoyed entertaining family and friends and was given the title of "Hostess with the Mostess".
On September 17, 1961, Sandy married John William "Bill" Deck, Jr. in the Attica First United Methodist Church.  Bill preceded Sandy in death on January 10, 2019.
Sandy leaves behind two daughters, Carrie (Mike) Brier, Attica and Cathy (Brian) Williams, Indianapolis; four grandchildren, Andrew (Jenny Jernagan) Brier, Joe Brier, Astin (Mo) Childs and Nick Williams; four great-grandchildren, Wyatt Brier, Cohen Childs, Caden Childs and Chloe Williams.  A special "thank-you" to Marilyn Black for her care that she gave Sandy these past four years.  She was preceded in death by her sister, Carolyn Paulson.
A memorial gathering and celebration of life for Sandy will be held at the Attica Eagles Lodge, 122 W. Main St., Attica on Sunday, June 18th, from 1:00 - 5:00 p.m.  Memorial contributions in Sandy's memory may be made to the Attica Community Foundation, c/o Attica Alumni Association or the Attica High School Class of 1954.
