Williamsport - Sandy Gail (Jordan) DeVault, 79, of Williamsport, IN passed away in the IU-Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, IN on the morning of Friday, August 21, 2026.
Sandy was born at home in Marshfield, IN on January 3, 1947. She was the eldest daughter of the late Max and Willa (Patton) Jordan. Sandy grew up in Marshfield until her family moved to Williamsport where she was a cheerleader for the Bingy Bombers and graduated from Williamsport High School in 1965. Following graduation, Sandy moved to Chicago, Illinois and worked downtown in ticket sales for United Airlines. She later moved to the Indianapolis area where she worked as a typesetter for the Saturday Evening Post. While living in Indianapolis, she enjoyed singing at various supper clubs and restaurants. In 1977, Sandy moved to Attica and worked as a typesetter for Sports Spirit in Lafayette and also worked in the optical department of Swadley’s Drug Store in Attica. She later took a position of administrative assistant in the Admissions Department at Hovde Hall at Purdue University. She later worked as a secretary in the Department of Entomology before finishing her career at Purdue in the Department of Agronomy, retiring in 2002. Following her retirement, Sandy began a soap making business out of her home. She and her husband traveled around to various festivals in the area selling his woodworking creations and her soap. They enjoyed traveling and ballroom and country dancing. She was a member of the Psi Iota Xi Sorority in Attica and the Red Hat Society in Williamsport. She also volunteered at Williamsport St. Vincent Hospital running the Guild Shop. She was a member of the Williamsport Christian Church for many years. Sandy was first married to Jackie Lee Sorters. She later married James Carl DeVault on November 27, 1983 in Williamsport, IN. Carl preceded Sandy in death on March 11, 2012. Sandy leaves behind two daughters, Christina (Tom) Harrison, West Lafayette and Heather (the late-Stuart) Keaton, Lafayette; her pet cat, Kitty; two step sons and a step daughter; a brother, Max Jordan, Attica; two sisters, Pam (Gordon) Summers, Attica and Mable Chambless, Pulaski, TN, and several step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl DeVault, a sister, Ena Scott, nephews Brendan Jordan and Byron Scott and parents Max and Willa Jordan. Friends may call at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica, on Friday, August 28th, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. A private family gravesite service will be held in the Highland Cemetery, Williamsport, IN with family and friends speaking.
