Williamsport - Sarah Pauline (Howton) Bryant, 88, Williamsport, passed away in the Community Hospice Bailey’s Family Center for Caring, in St. Augustine, FL, on Sunday, September 27, 2026 at 12:45 a.m., following a stroke that she suffered earlier in the week while visiting her sister in St. Augustine.
Pauline, as she was known to family and friends, was born at home in Fayette County, Alabama on August 3, 1938. She was raised in Alabama, later moving to Missouri where she met her future husband, J.H. Bryant and worked together in the cotton fields. She married J.H. on August 13, 1955 in Sikeston, MO. Together they moved up to Indiana in August of 1963. J.H. preceded her in death on March 13, 2010. While living in Williamsport, Pauline formerly worked at R.M.C. in Attica, Tee Pak, Danville, IL; press operator at Harrison Steel Castings Company in Attica; housekeeping in the Warren Elementary School and also drove the school bus; at Purdue University in housekeeping and at Dollar General in Attica. She later worked alongside her husband installing fences. Pauline was an active member of the Christ Gospel Church in Attica. She enjoyed tending to her vegetable garden and flower beds. She also enjoyed quilting. Pauline leaves behind her four children, Lonnie Ray (Julie) Bryant, Attica; Danny Ray (Christina) Bryant, Attica; Tommy J. (Tammy) Bryant, Wallace and Joyce Rater, Attica; a sister, Carolyn (Tony) Larson, St. Augustine, FL; twelve grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, four great great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Craven and three brothers, J.W., Ernest & James Howton. Friends may call at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica, on Friday, October 2nd from 11:00 a.m. until service time at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Bill Scroggins officiating. Burial will follow in the Highland Cemetery, Williamsport. Memorial contributions may be made to the Christ Gospel Church.
