Attica - Shelby Jean (DeMumbrum) Hughes, 86, formerly of Attica and had been residing in Indianapolis, passed away in the Clear Vista Lake Health Campus, Indianapolis, on Monday, August 26, 2024 at 3:50 p.m.
Shelby was born in Kentucky on August 11, 1938.  Shelby was the daughter of the late Samuel and Mae (Thompson) DeMumbrum.  Shelby was raised in Kentucky, moving to Indiana as a teenager and settling in the Mellott area.  She later moved to Attica and attended Attica High School.  She has lived most of her life in Attica and recently moved to Indianapolis.
Shelby worked as a sand technician for Harrison Steel Castings Company in Attica.  She had attended the Church of Christ in Mellott.  She was an avid golfer and a former member of the Harrison Hills Country Club.  She enjoyed playing on the Friday Night Couples League at the Country Club.  She was an avid I.U. mens basketball fan.
On April 17, 1976, Shelby married Lowell Dean Hughes in the Attica Christian Church.  Dean preceded her in death on January 23, 2016.
Shelby leaves behind five children, James Robert Martin, Inver Grove Heights, MN; Ken (Pam) Martin, Oakwood, IL; Rebecca (Jeff) Capello, Morton, IL; Robert Hughes, Morton, IL and Courtney (Jon) Suiters, Indianapolis; four siblings, Glenn (Diane) DeMumbrum, Burbank, IL; Betty Speros, Marshall, IL; Carol (Harold) Lacy, Kentucky and Ed DeMumbrum, Chicago; eighteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.   She was preceded in death by two children, Dean Hughes and Debbie Myers along with two sisters, Mary Minnick and Barb DeMumbrum.
Friends may call at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica, on Friday, September 6th, from 11:00 a.m. until the service time at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Rod Andrews officiating.  Burial will follow in the Rockfield Cemetery, Veedersburg.  Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude Children's  Hospital.
