Attica - Shirley Ann (Frasch) Markley, 88, of rural Independence, passed away at her home on Saturday, May 18th, 2024 at 6:00 p.m. with family by her side following a brief illness with cancer.
Shirley was born at home near Independence, Indiana on September 28, 1935.  She was the daughter of the late Fred and Lucile (Perigo) Frasch.  She has lived all of her life in Warren County near Independence.  She graduated form Pine Village High School in 1953.
Shirley formerly worked as a Deputy Clerk in the Warren County Clerk's office.  She later worked as a secretary for the Purdue University Extension Office in Williamsport until her retirement in 1997.  During this time she helped her husband and son farm their land in Warren County.
Shirley was a member of the Independence River Spring Church.  She was a 50 year member of the West Lebanon  Order of Eastern Star Chapter # 162.  She was an advanced master gardener.  She enjoyed the time spent working in her flower and vegetable garden.  She loved to work in her yard. She loved to hunt mushrooms and was an avid Purdue University men's basketball fan and enjoyed attending the Indianapolis 500 mile races with her family.
On June 20, 1954, Shirley married Robert Ivan Markley in the Riverview United Methodist Church.  Robert preceded her in death on October 12, 2013.
Shirley leaves behind a daughter, Tracy Markley, Attica; a son, James (Kimberly) Markley, Attica; a brother, William (Sandy) Frasch, Attica; four grandchildren, Zachery (fiancée-Tal) Markley, Caleb Markley, Elijah (Becky) Markley and Josie (Matthew) Bowers; six great-grandchildren, Lucas & Abigail Bowers; Arizona, Atticus, Ezekiel & Isaiah Markley; her best friends, Greta Beaman, Betty Haynes, Janine Phillips, Kelly Pearson and Renee McKee; her friends with "Pheasants Forever" Doug Cooper and Drew Davis.  She was preceded in death by a son, Steven Markley; a brother, Wade Frasch and a sister, Wanda Snell.
The family would like to thank the staff and doctors of Elara Caring Hospice for their kindness and care that was given to Shirley.
Friends may call at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica, on Thursday, May 23rd, from 11:00 a.m. until the Order of Eastern Star Memorial Service at 1:00 p.m.  A celebration of Shirley's life will follow at 1:15 p.m. with Pastor Dan Jordan, Rev. Mike Link, and her good friend, Greta Beaman speaking.  Burial will follow in the Boswell Cemetery, Boswell, IN.  Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
