Attica - Shirley Jean (Johnson) Moore, 86, of rural Attica, passed away in her home with her family by her side on Wednesday, December 7, 2022 at 7:56 p.m.
Shirley was born in Pigeon Township in Iroquois County, Illinois on May 21, 1936. She was the daughter of the late Gilbert Lorenzo Johnson and Lucille (Tuggle) Olson. Shirley grew up in Rankin, Illinois and later moved to Waco, TX where she graduated from Waco Tech High School in 1954. She has resided in rural Warren County since 1955.
On November 25, 1955, Shirley married Robert F. Moore in Paxton, IL.
Shirley worked at the Index Notion Store in Attica. She then was a stay-at-home mother and did volunteer work in the community. She was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church, Rankin, IL; V.F.W. Post # 3318 Auxiliary; member of the American Legion Post # 52 Auxiliary; DAR member; volunteer for the American Cancer Society; Relay for Life and Rides to Treatment. She was a Girl Scout Leader and served on the Sycamore Girl Scout Council.
Shirley leaves behind her husband, Robert of 67 years; a daughter, Sherry (Jeff) Clendenon, Indianapolis; a son, Kurtis (Sharyn) Moore, Crawfordsville; a brother, Gilbert L. (Charlotte) Johnson, Temple, TX; a sister, Juanita "Nita" (Ralph) Motogawa, San Antonio, TX; five grandchildren, Sarah Lynn (partner-Dustin Lawrence), Jesse Ann (Cory) Hess, Nathanael D. Babb, Catrin A. Moore and Kile A. Turner; a great-granddaughter, Winifred Autumn Hess. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Jamie La Nette Moore.
Friends may call at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica, on Sunday, December 11th, from 12:00 p.m. until service time at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Carla Rush officiating. Burial will follow in the Pine Village Cemetery, Pine Village, IN. Memorial contributions may be made to the Grace Lutheran Church, 102 S. Johnson St., Rankin, IL 60960; American Cancer Society or the St. Jude Children's Hospital.
