Attica - Shirley Kay (Pearson) Schnelle, 81, Attica, passed away at the home of her daughter, Tammy Bandy, in Independence, IN on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at 7:38 a.m.
Kay, as she was known to family and friends, was born at home in Independence, Indiana on May 11, 1943.  She was the daughter of the late Harold Milford and Irene Amanda (Watkins) Pearson.  She was raised in Independence and graduated from Seeger Memorial High School.
Kay married Robert Schnelle in1962 and Robert preceded her in death on October of 1997.
After graduating from high school Kay moved to Monticello, Indiana and worked as a Nursing Aide, QMA and worked in medical records for then Turtle Creek Nursing Center.  She later worked in Social Services, working with Alzheimers patients and caregivers at Whispering Pines Nursing Center.  After retiring from Social Services, Kay moved back to Attica in 2017.
Kay was a member of the Attica Free Methodist Church.  She enjoyed reading, studying the Bible, yard sales and playing computer games.
Kay leaves behind a daughter, Tammy Bandy, Independence; a son, Tim (Beth) Schnelle, Connersville, IN; a sister, Linda Rush, Davenport, FL; five grandchildren, Rob Bandy, Travis Bandy, Marissa Sprouls, Michael (Sydney) Schnelle and Melissa (Cameron) Dick; three great-grandchildren, Asher, Owen and Alaina.  Kay was preceded in death by a brother, Lawrence E. Pearson and three sisters, Dorothy Craig, Esther Conklin and Lena Thomas.
Friends may call at the Attica Free Methodist Church, 1212 E. Main St., Attica, on Saturday, March 1st from 1:00 p.m. until the service time at 3:00 p.m. with Pastors Jerry Badgley and Josh Barnett officiating.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association.
