Attica - Silas Himes, 92, Attica, passed away at the home of his daughter in Attica on Tuesday, June 30, 2026 at 5:54 a.m. following his failing health.
Silas was born in Lewis County, KY on March 27, 1934. He was the son of the late Charles Himes and Beatrice (Kennedy) Taylor. Silas was raised in Kentucky and attended school in Hillsboro, KY. In the early 1960's he moved to Attica where he has lived most of his adult life.
Silas worked as a caster for C & D Batteries in Attica until his retirement.
Silas proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He dedicated his skills and bravery to his country in a time of need.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandpa, great-grandpa and great great- grandpa. He enjoyed watching baseball and his favorite team was the Cincinnati Reds. He was an avid Purdue basketball fan and enjoyed attending the Indianapolis 500 Race.
On August 29, 1955, Silas married Wilma Jean Roberts in Maysville, KY. Wilma preceded Silas in death on September 12, 2010 after 55 years of marriage.
Silas leaves behind five children, John (Wanda) Himes, Greenwood, IN; Cheryle Jean Himes, Lafayette; Debra Himes, Attica; David A. (Jennifer) Himes, Veedersburg and James P. (Erica) Himes, Attica; a brother, Harold "Hoppy" (June) Himes, Flemingsburg, KY; Ten Grandchildren, Christopher Himes, Erin Himes, John William (Anna) Himes, Megan E. Roemer, Katherine A. (Josh) Howard, Dustin (Sarah) Himes, Davaina Himes, Patrick Himes, Laura (Patrick) Himes-Wolfe, Seth Himes; Eighteen great-grandchildren, Allie Howard, Audrey Broussard, Hayden Howard, Gavin Howard, Maggie Howard, Sophie Howard, Lamar Himes, Ian Himes, Will Himes, Calvin Himes, Jackson Himes, Mason Himes, Greyson Himes, Reagan Askren, Trinity Crane, Madaliegh Crane, Morgan Jones, Jake Winchester; a great great-granddaughter, Rozlyn Roadruck. Silas was preceded in death by a son, Mark Himes; three granddaughters, Erika Himes, Amanda Roemer and Destiny Himes; three brothers, Elwood, his twin Paul and Ernie Himes.
Friends may call at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica on Wednesday, July 8th from 11:00 a.m. until the service time at 1:00 p.m. with family and friends speaking. Burial with military honors will be held in the Riverside Cemetery, Attica. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project.
