Battleground - Susan Lynn (Halsema) Alt, 59, Battle Ground, passed away unexpectedly in her home on Thursday, October 15, 2026.
Susan was born in Lafayette, Indiana on August 3, 1967. She was the daughter of the late Jerry L. Halsema and M. Arlene (Budreau) Deck. Susan was raised in the West Lafayette area and graduated from William Henry Harrison High School in 1985. Susan worked as a bartender and lifelong member of the American Legion Posts 492 & 11 in West Lafayette and Lafayette, where she was known and loved by many. Susan enjoyed gambling, Harleys, Mustangs and Fleetwood Mac. She loved her friends and her family; a good cup of coffee with a Marlboro Red 100 and Fleetwood Mac playing, random clearance bargains, summertime, a good pool day and a nice tan. She was a fighter who kicked cancer. She had a huge heart and she lived by the five F’s; family, friends, flowers, food and fun. Susan had lots of friends and was a force to be reckoned with. Heaven got a little rowdier. Susan was first married to Mike Runkle and later married Ronald Alt on September 1, 2006 in Lafayette. Susan leaves behind her husband, Ronald of 20 years along with her children, Sarah (Ryan) Ford, Lafayette; Jon Runkle, West Lafayette; Molly Alt, Lafayette and Payton Alt, Lafayette; her grandchildren, Peyton, Camden, Aiden, Landon (Neveah), Taylor, Chase and Maxon Ford; Bentley and Noah Runkle; her siblings, Karen (Donald Keener) Lucas, West Lafayette; Mark (Tammy Clark) Halsema, West Lafayette; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Rachael Runkle and her brother-in-law, Brian Lucas. In memory of Susan, take a long country cruise with a glass of tea and jam out to your favorite songs. She’d loved that. Friends may call at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica, on Friday, October 23rd from 5:00 p.m. until service time at 7:00 p.m. Cremation will follow with inurnment held at a later date in the Tippecanoe Memory Garden, West Lafayette.
