Mellott - Ted Deckard Jr., 72, Mellott, passed away in the I.U. Health Arnett Hospital, Lafayette, on Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at 3:45 p.m.
Ted was born in Gamaliel, Kentucky on November 5, 1948. He was the son of the late Ted Haskel and Cliffidean (Hurd) Deckard. Ted was raised in Gamaliel, Kentucky, graduating from Gamaliel High School. He moved to Mellott in 1971 and has been a resident for the past 50 years.
Ted formerly worked as a Charge Technician for C & D Battery in Attica for 37 ½ years, retiring in 2014.
Ted enjoyed the outdoors where he like to coon hunt and fish. He formerly raced in demolition derbies in the surrounding area. He also enjoyed raising a vegetable garden, but didn't enjoy weeding the garden. You could always hear Ted saying "It will be alright. There's nothing you can do about it anyway. It is what it is". Or "Hold the fort down" and "Give me some sugar".
On June 27, 1970, Ted married Connie Faye Key in Gamaliel, KY. He leaves behind his wife, Connie of nearly 51 years. He also leaves behind three siblings, Marie (Ron) Norvell, Arthur, IL.; Bill (companion-Dottie) Deckard, Allerton, IL and Kathy (Glenn) Delbridge, Sidell, IL; special family, Verlinda Babb, Veedersburg; Vern (Kim) Babb, Mellott; Thaylynn, Alyson and Catalina Babb; Veronica (Matthew) Eldridge, West Lafayette; William, Kollen and Logan Eldridge; several nieces, great-nieces and great-nephews. Ted was preceded in death by two infant daughters, Nikki and Nichole Deckard.
Friends may call at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica, on Monday, March 22nd from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 23rd at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Brian Holt officiating. Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Hillsboro. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mellott Volunteer Fire Department. All visitors are encouraged to wear face masks and do social distancing while in attendance.
