Lafayette - Violet M. (Auter) Brown, 98 of Lafayette, passed away at Mulberry Health at 8:40 pm on Thursday, June 15, 2023.
She was born to the late Clyde F. and Lucy (Barwick) Auter on June 25, 1924, in Warren County, Indiana.
Violet was raised in Judyville, Indiana, and graduated from Williamsport High School in 1943.   She married her best friend, G. W. (Bill) Brown on July 21, 1946, in Attica, IN. He preceded her in death on May 25, 1994.
Violet worked for her uncle, Ray Barwick, at his general store in Judyville during her high school years, then as a telephone operator for Bell Telephone.  She worked at J. C. Penney in Lafayette and retired from State Farm Insurance Co.
Violet was a member of the Dayton United Methodist Church.  She enjoyed spending quality time with her family and friends, traveling, wintering in Florida, cooking, sewing and reading.
She leaves behind her daughter, Jennifer (Jim) Brooks; two grandchildren, Emily (Neil) Skiles and Tyler (Frances) Brooks; two great-grandchildren, Hayden and Aria Skiles; her sister,  Verna Bartlett of Muncie, IN, and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Wesleyan (Dolly) Brown along with two sisters, Viola Hodge and Betty J. Overly.
A private family  graveside service will beheld at a later date at Riverside Cemetery in Attica, IN.  Memorial contributions in Violet's memory may be made to the charity of one's choice.
