Attica - WaStella Belle (Pattengale) VanDame, 93, Attica, passed away in the Williamsport Health & Rehabilitation Center on Tuesday, May 7th at 2:20 p.m.
Stella, as she was known to family and friends, was born in Attica, Indiana on September 27, 1930. She was the daughter of the late Thomas C. and Martha E. (Mowdy) Pattengale. She was a life resident of Attica, graduating from Attica High School in 1949.
Stella worked in payroll at Harrison Steel Castings Company for 40 years, retiring in 1994.
She was a member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and a member of the Legion of Mary. She and her husband were long time Attica High School Athletic Boosters. They were recently honored for their long time support of athletics at Attica High School. They were also long time supporters of the Attica Potowatomi Festival. Stella very seldom missed a Chicago Cubs baseball game on tv and enjoyed watching the Indiana Fever women's basketball.
On June 1, 1952, Stella married Harold Leo VanDame in the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Harold preceded her in death on February 3, 2023 of nearly 71 years of marriage.
Stella leaves behind a daughter, Alison (Gary) Schmid, Attica; two grandchildren, Adrienne (Tyler) Mix, Attica and Gavin Schmid, Attica. She was preceded in death by seven brothers, Paul, Richard, Earl, Dale, William, Sylvester and Dwayne Pattengale along with six sisters, Josephine Mortimore, Carmen Gertrude Lefton, Hazel Holycross, Luella Bell, Leeida Beedle and Beulah Biggs.
Friends may call at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 407 S. Perry St., Attica, on Saturday, May 11th, from 11:00 a.m. until the Rosary Service at 12:00 p.m. followed by the Funeral Mass at 12:15 p.m. with Rev. David Rasner officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Attica. Memorial contributions may be made to the Attica Community Foundation c/o Harold & WaStella VanDame Scholarship Fund.
