Attica - William "Bill" A. Harris, 75, Attica, passed away in the I.U. Health Arnett Hospital, Lafayette on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at 1:13 a.m. with his family by his side.
Bill was born in Mount Clemens, Michigan on October 20, 1943. He was the son of the late Paul Jasper and Evelyn D. (Myers) Harris, Sr. Bill was a life resident of Attica, graduating from Attica High School in 1962. Bill worked as an Inspector for Harrison Steel Castings Company in Attica. After 37 years working at Harrison Steel he retired in 2006.
Bill served his country by enlisting in the U.S. Navy and served in the Vietnam War. At the time of his honorable discharge he had attained the rank of Boatswain Mate Third Class. While in the service he was a member of the Loyal Order of the Dragon as a result of his crossing the International Date Line.
Bill had attended the Attica Lutheran Church. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 52, V.F.W. Post # 3318, Eagles Lodge # 2596 and attained Golden Eagle status and the Moose Lodge # 1482, all of Attica. He enjoyed fishing, bowling and telling stories and jokes. He liked to travel, especially if it was to Florida.
He was married to Donna Jo Osborne on May 27, 1978 in Attica. Donna preceded him in death on November 29, 2005.
He leaves behind his two daughters, Danielle (companion-Ike Lister) Harris and Brooke Harris, both of Attica; his companion, Ruth Lockhart, Attica; a sister, Patricia "Pat" A. Stonebraker, Attica; four grandchildren, John David Barnedt, Joshua Barnedt, Sean McCall and Kaitlin McCall; six great-grandchildren; his two pet Yorkshire terriers, Max & Molly. He was preceded in death by a brother, Paul J. Harris, Jr and an infant sister, Sue Ann Harris.
Bill's family will receive friends at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica on Tuesday, May 14th from 12;00 p.m. until service time at 2:00 p.m. with Ed Bowen officiating. Burial with military honors will be held in the Riverside Cemetery, Attica. Memorial contributions may be made to the U.S.O or the American Lung Association.
