William "Bill" Joseph Mickle, 77, of Attica, Indiana, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at Franciscan Health Hospital in Lafayette on Sunday, October 5, 2025, at 11:05 p.m.
Born at home on Summit Street in Attica on January 30, 1948, Bill was the son of the late Ira Elmer Jr. and Barbara Jean (Smith) Mickle. He was raised in Warren County and graduated from Seeger Memorial High School in 1967. He later attended Allied Technology School in Chicago, where he trained as a mechanic. Bill dedicated 48 years of service to C & D Technologies before retiring. He also proudly served in the Indiana National Guard, attaining the rank of Sergeant.
On July 11, 1970, Bill married the love of his life, Nancy M. Stetler, at the Attica Christian Church. They shared over 55 wonderful years together. Bill is survived by Nancy; their two sons, Tim (Lori) Mickle of Brookston and Chris (Michelle) Mickle of Attica; four grandchildren, Katelyn (Michael) Van DeWater, Trevor (Emily) Mickle, Cameron (Hannah) Mickle, and Makayla Mickle; one great-granddaughter, Eleanor Van DeWater; and a great grandbaby on the way. He also leaves behind his beloved cat, Leo; a sister, Janet (Jim) Young of Attica; and a brother, David Mickle of Williamsport. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Jerry Mickle, and a sister, Mary Speakman.
Bill was a longtime member of the Attica Christian Church and more recently attended Sterling Christian Church in Veedersburg. He was a former member of the Moose Lodge in Lafayette. Known for his love of the outdoors, Bill could often be found mowing not only his own yard but also those of his neighbors. He enjoyed boating on the Wabash River and Raccoon and Freeman Lakes, and camping on weekends was one of his favorite pastimes. Mechanically gifted, Bill loved working on cars. He and Nancy also shared a passion for line dancing, teaching local couples and DJ'ing events together.
If you knew Bill, then you were lucky enough to know him around the holidays, you knew he made the best caramels. Sharing those caramels with family, friends and co-workers was just one of the many ways Bill showed his love.
Visitation will be held at Maus Funeral Home in Attica on Wednesday, October 8, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m., officiated by Rev. Gary Johnson. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Attica.
