Independence - William "Bill" Reed Mitchell, 77, of rural Independence, passed away quietly at his home, with family by his side, on Sunday, July 16, 2023 at 5:37 p.m.
Bill was born in Crawfordsville, Indiana on February 2, 1946.  He was the son of the late Daniel Lee and Helen Marie (Eichelberger) Mitchell.  He was raised in Newtown and graduated from Pine Village High School in 1964.  He has resided in rural Independence for the past 55 years.
Bill worked with Mitchell Custom Homes in Newtown.  He attended the Pine Village Bible Church.  He was a former member of the Pine Village Masonic Lodge.  He enjoyed the time spent with his family, especially the granddaughters and his pet dogs.
On June 20, 1964 Bill married Arlene F. Weigle in New Buffalo, MI.
Bill leaves behind his wife, Arlene,  of 59 years along with two children, Sherri (Pat) McGraw, Attica and Jay (Kristi) Mitchell, Attica; two granddaughters, McKenna Mitchell and Hunter (Brady) Rogers.  He was preceded in death by a brother, David Mitchell.
A celebration of Bill's life will be held in the Pine Village Bible Church, 106 E. Church St., Pine Village, IN on Sunday, July 23rd at 2:00 p.m. with his daughter-in-law, Pastor Kristi Mitchell officiating.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Pine Village Bible Church or to the charity of one's choice.
