Wilma "Jean" Overpeck, 92, of Attica stepped into heaven early on Friday morning, December 10, 2021 while in the Ascension St. Vincent hospital, Williamsport.

Jean was born in Clinton County Indiana on February 13, 1929. She was the youngest child of Charles "Charlie" Montgomery and Fern Catron Montgomery. Her family always called her "Jeanie." Jean was preceded in death by her parents and an older brother and sister, Charles Montgomery, Frankfort, and Frances Durr, Attica.

Jean was raised on a farm near Frankfort, and attended Frankfort High school, graduating in 1947. Following graduation, Jean attended the John Herron Art Institute in Indianapolis, and became a lifelong amateur artist. Jean became a dance instructor at Arthur Murray's in Lafayette and married one of her students, William "Bill" Overpeck of Attica (originally from Rockville) on December 8, 1951. The couple was married in Frankfort and then began their life together in Attica where Bill had recently opened the Overpeck Lumber Company (now Krug Lumber). Jean and Bill were married for 59 years, had one child, a daughter, Carol (husband, Joe) DeSutter of Attica. They had five grandchildren: Jill (Kyle) Mandeville of Attica, Mike DeSutter of Los Angeles, Laura DeSutter of Attica, Andrew (Betsy) DeSutter of West Lafayette, and Rick (Ashley) DeSutter of Lafayette. Also surviving are seven great-grandchildren: Will, Caroline and Drew Mandeville, Nori DeSutter, Teddy DeSutter, Chase and Myles DeSutter.

Jean was a member of the Attica BPW, and the local women's Home Ec. Club in the 60's and 70's. She was the Girl Scout Troop leader for Troop 330 in Attica in the 70's as well. Jean attended the Attica Christian Church for several years, and was a member of White Horse Christian Center in West Lafayette for the last 30 years. Jean loved the Lord and her "church family." Many people fondly called her grandma in addition to her own grandchildren, who were her delight and joy.

Friends may call at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica, on Tuesday, December 14, 2021 from 11:00 a.m. until the service time at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow in the Memory Garden at Rockville, IN.  Memorial contributions in Jean's memory may be made to the White Horse Christian Center, West Lafayette, IN.
